Calling all Revelers!
Come one, come all to the SSA's Holiday Party!
we will hold our annual Holiday Buffet Dinner with all you can eat for $18,
a cash bar, and delightful entertainment (members can bring their "significant other" for only $16). Bring as many friends as you wish and be prepared to sing to the wonderful piano of Carroll Rinehart. Members of the Society
of Southwestern Authors have offered to read favorite Christmas
and Hanukkah stories from their well of tales of this joyous season.
We would love to have as many people as possible read a piece for the holidays, either your own or an excerpt from a favorite classic. Make it funny, make it punny, but make it no longer than five minutes air time. Search your files for past treasures, published or not, and see what you can find, then notify Chris Stern (473-0940) or Penny Porter (296-5299) so we can put you on the program. We expect a large crowd. Don't be shy. We love you. And remember, in every one of us there dwells a storyteller. Let him or her out for this holiday. See you on the 12th at the Plaza Hotel.
Be sure to phone 546-9382 for a reservation before Thursday evening, December 9th and let's make this the best party of the year.
Wrangling With Writing 2000
As you all know by now, our "Wrangling With Writing"
conference is coming up in January and we are excited by the editors,
authors, publishers, and agents who are presenting and working with us.
Ray Bradbury, one of our keynote speakers, suffered a stroke at his Palm Spring home recently and is concerned about his recovery in time to join us and our other keynote speakers, Dr. Andrew M. Greeley and Bud Gardner. Ray was instrumental in helping us find a pinch-hitter for him in the event we need one* - George Plimpton. As the editor of the Paris Review and author of numerous books, from his sports experience (Paper Lion and The Bogeyman), to his current biography of Truman Capote, George has made a mark on American literature. We are still hoping that Ray's health will allow him to attend, but in the event he cannot, Ray has made sure we will have a great team for the conference. This will be a conference to remember! Please get your registration in soon. If you need one for a friend, you can give Penny a call at 296-5299 or even better, have them print out one from our website at: www.azstarnet.com/nonprofit/ssa/conference2000.html . On the website they can see the whole brochure and learn more about SSA. Hope to see you all at the conference. *it is confirmed that George Plimpton will be our speaker on January 22nd. |
