Wrangling With Writing 2007 Huge Success
by Penny Porter
After all the anxiety over switching Wrangling With Writing to September after so many January years, and opening the doors on Saturday and Sunday instead of Friday and Saturday, attendance including faculty remained around 300.
We presented two full scholarships: one to Daniel Gonzalez, gifted artist and journalist. Daniel is currently finishing up his degree in Art Education at the University. A glimpse of his website, danielsartwork.com, speaks for itself. Monica Uruttia Sheehan with roots in Peru, and a happily married mother of two, is a prolific writer of bi-lingual short stories for children of all ages. Along with these talented young authors and artists, we were proud to help make attendance possible for nine full time teachers and writers requesting aid, and wish to thank Mark Sneller and Carroll Rinehart in particular for their generous scholarship contributions.
We thank you all, faculty, slaves (Carol, Sharon, Mike, Chris, Connie, Ken, Sam, Mary Ann, Carroll, Jennifer, Dewanne, Steve, airport taxi drivers) and all our SSA members who were there welcoming 31 new members, for making this conference such a huge success.
NOTE: This is the 2007 brochure, stay tuned for 2008.
